It's been a while since we had the chance to enjoy a fish fry, but we finally made the time and headed to White Dog Black Cat Cafe. This cafe is not your ordinary cafe and is worth a visit any day of the week. They self describe as "... a cozy cafe [that] boasts not only amazing food but a fun and funky casual atmosphere", and having been there for Sunday Brunch and now a Friday Fish Fry, I completely agree. For cocktail and beer lovers, they offer hand crafted cocktails and a wide selection of craft beers.

Walking up to the cafe, they have a series of large paintings propped up against the building. Of course they have a white dog, and a black cat, appropriate quirky art for this establishment.

Going inside, there is a large bar, pub seating, couches, and a separate dining room. The place brings together different pieces of furniture and decor to create a unique appearance that is not uniform throughout, and it is done nicely.

Since we got there after 8:00pm, there was plenty of seating available so we immediately took our seats at a two person table in the dining room. I inquired if they hand muddle their Brandy Old Fashioned, and she said they absolutely do. I ordered a Brandy Old Fashioned Proper-as our waitress called it-a brandy old fashioned muddled, but no added soda, just the perfect blend of muddling and a good brandy served over ice.

We ordered our meals, I got the fish fry and Chad got the Hungry Cat Burger, a 1/2 pound burger sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches....oh my!

The fish fry wasn't the typical perch platter, but was a generous portion of beer battered Walleye, 3 large filets in all and fried to a crispy golden deliciousness while maintaining the juiciness of the fish inside. Absolutely delicious! Perch is not the only things that makes a Classic Wisconsin Fish Fry, it just has to be a fresh water fish and Walleye is just that.

I had my choice of potato options but I decided to go with their classic potato side of what they call babycake potatoes. These babycakes resemble a hashbrown in bite size pieces, just way better than any hashbrown you've ever had. Delicious!

The meal was topped off with a serving of cole slaw which had an excellent flavor with a little tang. Rye bread was served on edge sandwiched between the cole slaw and tartar sauce, and made for an excellent presentation.

I've enjoyed White Dog Black Cat Cafe's Sunday Brunch a few times and always had a great experience. Their Friday Fish Fry was no exception. Their website makes a bold statement on their excellent food and atmosphere, and they deliver on everything! You absolutely must check out this cafe for Sunday Brunch and Friday Fish Fry, it'll offer a different dining experience with their quirky atmosphere but you will love it! I just wish they had some raw onion on the bread, but that is my only complaint!
